Flintlock Village

Flintlock Village

Be transported back to the 1870’s and participate in the way of life of the pioneers. Flintlock Village has been brought to Owasippe thanks to the popular and totally unique program developed by Camp Napowan. Their inspiration for this program will continue to flourish at Owasippe.

Flintlock Village Pioneers

Take part in pioneering activities and learn long forgotten skills. This area features a working forge, candle making and real life settlers.

Flintlock’s Working Forge

See how metal was shaped and used in the 1870s. There is an opportunity for Scouts to earn Metalworking at Flintlock Vllage

Flintlock’s Handicraft Area

Leatherwork, Basketry, & Woodcarving are all “walk in” merit badges (Scouts can come and go as needed to complete the badge.


Owasippe County Fair

The Owasippe County Fair

Up to 1000 Scouts, Scouters and staff gather every Wednesday evening at the Owasippe County Fair. Expect a great time filled with fun and games. Dinner is served to all participants.

Test your skill at overcoming all the challenges this course has to offer as you race through the course and exit the slide.

 

GaGa Ball Tournament

One of the more popular events at the County Fair is the Reservation wide GaGa tournament. Each troop can enter and participate in this fun event.

Inflatable Ball Gather Competition

Out gather from your opponent the balls from the center ring while being harnessed to wall.

 

Fire Truck

Watch the masses of Scouts converge under the spray of the truck’s water cannon. Be prepared for great cooling off on a warm summer evening.

 

Trading Post

The Administration Center trading post snack bar, is a busy place at the county fair. Each of the Camps on the Reservation also have a trading post where you can find some necessities along with plenty of Owasippe memorabilia.

Dunk Tank

Who can resist dunking an Owasippe staff member. This is your opportunity to let the staff know how much you appreciate them. This popular event always draws a crowd.

 

Root Beer Garden

Leaders enjoy cool refreshing root beer on tap; where they can take a break from the Scouts and enjoy accordion music.

Camp Medic

Scouts get to meet the camp medic along with his therapy dog. A visit with the happy dog is always popular.

Leader Karaoke

Listen to the musical talent you didn’t know your leaders had. Support their their talent with cheers.

Dinner for a Thousand

The multiple lines move quickly as hungry Scouts load up their plates. Enjoy the offerings from the kitchen.


E. Urner Goodman Scout Museum

*Owasippe, the oldest Scout camp in America where…the programs developed at Owasippe became the standard for other camps. From the earliest years, Owasippe had reserved the last week of summer camp for Scout leader training. Leaders from all over the country camped at Owasippe; things they saw and learned were carried back to their home units and councils

E. Urner Goodman Scout Museum 

Owasippe offers one of the most unique experiences for Scouts and visitors in America.  A converted early American township hall, with a one-room schoolhouse, holds a remarkable collection of Scouting history and memorabilia from Owasippe’s over 110 years of operation.

 

History of Scouting

Located at the Owasippe Administration Complex.  Units camping at Owasippe are encouraged to leave a piece of history by donating a Unit photograph with a roster of campers.

STEM at Owasippe

STEM related merit Badges are an integral part of each of our Scout Camps. STEM opportunities are built into the program at both Blackhawk and Wolverine. Visit the Ecology-Conservation and Handicraft areas to work on a STEM related merit badge or activity.

Opportunities abound at the STEM lodge. Whether your preference is for Robotics, Chess, Rocketry, or any number of other STEM related merit badges offered, you will find plenty to do at the STEM Lodge.

STEM OPPORTUNITIES

Programs at Blackhawk and Wolverine may vary year to year in order to expose returning Scouts to as many Merit Badge program opportunities as possible.



Pathfinder Program

Owasippe‘s First Year Experience Program.  This is the Scouts chance to learn the lay of the land, so to speak.  In this program, Scouts will work on a number of different skills and rank advancements while experiencing much of what the camp has to offer.  From there, Scouts will experience the excitement of being part of programs in Scoutcraft, Nature, and Aquatics.  While in the program areas, Scouts will work on their swimming skills, participate in a nature hike and learn how to identify different types of plant life. They may acquire new skills, like knot tying and lashings that Scouts use on every campout.  They will learn about Owasippe’s long and cherished history.
